Kesho Connect is an initiative by the Dutch foundation Stichting4Life. The foundation has been active in Kibera since 2007 and supports various education and employment programs to support Youth towards a sustainable future.
Kibera is one of the largest urban slums in Africa. Young people aged 17–30 in Kibera face structural barriers to education, skills development, and sustainable employment. While numerous NGOs, training institutes, and companies operate in Nairobi, youth in Kibera often lack direct access to these opportunities due to social, financial, and network constraints.
With an unemployment rate of 30% among youth in Kenya the chances of youth born, raised and educated in a slum like Kibera to find a sustainable job that will support them and their families in the future, are very slim. Although basis education is available and offered in Kibera through various private institutions, the connection and resources to follow next level education, training programs and ultimately get connected to internship of permanent job opportunities are extremely challenging for this group. Kesho Connect offers this connection and seeks support from various organisations to take their Social responsibility and offer this group a fair chance for a sustainable future.
The long-term goal is to strengthen youth livelihoods, reduce unemployment, and provide pathways out of poverty by creating a sustainable bridge between Kibera’s youth and formal opportunities.
Act as an access point for youth to be matched with education, training, internship, potential scholarships and job opportunities.
Through cooperation with other organisations, support youth with relevant life, business, and employability skills.
Build structured collaboration with universities, vocational training institutes, NGOs, and private sector employers.
Create lasting partnerships where companies, NGOs, and institutions actively commit to internships, scholarships, or jobs for youth.
We support youth in Kibera through a range of practical pathways: Educational Institutions, NGOs, Companies, IT Education, Training Institutes, and Self Employment.
From access to education and scholarships, to partnerships with NGOs and training institutes, to connections with companies offering internships and jobs, we create real opportunities for growth.
